On the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, where no lead is ever truly safe — largely due to the iconic island-green par-3 17th hole — Young birdied the hole in each of his final three rounds. In the final round, standing on the tee one shot behind leader Matt Fitzpatrick, Young delivered his most important putt of the week, converting from just inside 10 feet.

At the par-4 18th, with a strong wind helping the ball travel even farther, Young smashed his drive an incredible 375 yards down the fairway. That shot set up a tense finish for par. Fitzpatrick’s drive, however, landed in the pine straw to the right of the fairway, leading to a costly bogey. Young calmly tapped in for par to secure his first victory at THE PLAYERS Championship and his second career PGA TOUR title.

Entering the final round, Young was four shots behind 54-hole leader Ludvig Åberg, who eventually closed with a 76 to finish tied for fifth place. But dramatic comebacks are nothing new at TPC Sawgrass. In 2024, Scottie Scheffler overcame a five-shot deficit in the final round to win, while Rory McIlroy also rallied from four shots behind before claiming victory in a playoff the following year.

With the win, Young earned $4.5 million from the $25 million prize fund and secured 750 FedExCup points. The victory also grants him PGA TOUR exemption through 2031 and entry into the next three editions of all four major championships. As an added milestone, Young is expected to climb into the top five of the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time in his career.
